Product DescriptionIt was 1908, the year of the Great Earthquake along the New Madrid fault. From northern Missouri to the Gulf of Mexico, the ground undulated at 8.7 on the Richter Scale. During the quake, the Mississippi River reversed its normal Gulf-bound flow and surged several hundred miles inland. At the confluence of the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers, a strange phenomenon occurred. Salt water marine life was swept north into the Arkansas River. However, the only salt water fish known to survive the catastrophe was the tiny sardine. Nowhere else in the world were sardines known to survive in fresh water! Fishermen, while "noodling" for catfish, began to notice the creatures schooling in the darkness of underwater caverns along the river banks. It wasn't long before they discovered that they were, indeed, a true delicacy. Toadsuck Canning Company was born!
